Riverside North senior Malcolm Lee finally accomplished something Reggie Miller never did.

Lee, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who signed with UCLA, has been selected to compete in the McDonald’s High School All-American Game next month in Milwaukee.

Miller, a 1983 graduate of Riverside Poly who went on to star at UCLA and for 18 years in the NBA, is an easy choice as the best boys’ basketball player from the area, however, Miller never played in the annual McDonald’s showcase, which started in 1977.

The only other boy from the area who was selected to play was Corey Benjamin of Fontana in 1996.

Lee is proving he can will his team to victory, much like Miller did, scoring 21 points Tuesday night as North defeated Upland, 61-60, in double overtime and advanced to a Southern Section Division I-A quarterfinal Friday night against visiting Glendora.

The Huskies are the only unseeded team remaining in the division, but they’ll have a good chance to knock off No. 14 Glendora, which is coming off a 56-53 quarterfinal upset against third-seeded El Toro.
