Sure, Harvard-Westlake lost to Mater Dei, but there really wasn’t anything the Wolverines could do about it. They were no match for the Monarchs’ raw talent level and there isn’t much you can do when guys like Gary Franklin and David Wear are scoring at will from all over the floor.

Unfortunately, Tuesday night’s loss marked the final time we’ll ever get to see Renaldo Woolridge work his magic in a prep game. Mater Dei’s speedy defense anchored by the Wear Towers managed to hold him to a very average-looking 12 points, but the Tennessee-bound Woolridge proved over the last two years he’s more than just another kid with NBA bloodlines.

Nurtured under the guidance of guys like Alex Stepheson and Jon Jaques, Woolridge emerged as one of the premier point scorers in the region as a junior. This year, he was the unquestioned leader for a squad that was constantly feuding with injuries and other forms of adversity.
