Coach Arnold Alpert said the Golden Bears cling to a five-point lead in the team standings after Day One of the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet at Carter.

Even better, they still have 12 of their 13 wrestlers in the running for a state bid and seven wrestlers -- Eric Reyes at 103, Dylan Barralas at 112, Marco Decaro at 135, Mario Decaro at 140, Patrick Martinez at 160, Jake Meredith at 171 and Eduardo Marquez at heavyweight -- are in Saturday morning’s championship quarterfinals, where a victory guarantees a spot at the state tournament.

Alpert said a highlight was Marquez’s overtime pin of previously undefeated Hamani Stevens of Hemet.
