Girls’ water polo: Riverside Poly, Murrieta Valley take home titles

A belated congratulations to Riverside Poly and Murrieta Valley, which won Southern Section titles Saturday at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.

Poly won its first section title wi th a 6-4 victory over Ayala in the Division III final.

The score was tied, 4-4, with about 3 1/2 minutes to play, but Poly reserve Sarah Lizotte broke the tie with her second goal of the game and Kilee Dreyer scored her second with 1:11 remaining to seal the victory.

Murrieta Valley was also involved in a nailbiter against Corona Santiago in the Division V final, but managed to defend its title with a 5-4 victory. Wendy Nicklaus scored three goals to lead Murrieta Valley, which built an early 4-0 lead.
