The coolest battles often come in trilogies.

There was the Frazier-Ali war. Don’t diss the Vader-Skywalker epic. And now we pray for another thrilogy: Mira Costa vs. Redondo in girls’ basketball. (Yes, I just invented the word ‘thrilogy,’ combining ‘thrilling’ and ‘trilogy.’)

These two Bay League bruisers -- the Mustangs and Sea Hawks -- have swapped blows this season, each team beating the other once and sharing the league crown. It’d be awesome for story-telling purposes for the squads to square off once more, all to determine one thing: South Bay supremacy. But it won’t be easy for the dream showdown to happen.

First, Redondo (25-3) must beat San Clemente (25-4) and Mira Costa (24-5) must take out Muir (26-1) in the semifinals of the Division I-A playoffs on Tuesday night.

Now, I’m off to invent more words! Wow, I’m a ‘supork.’ (That’s ‘super’ and ‘dork.’)
