There was no doubt about the star of the first league mega-game of the season.

Kamerin May, the junior pitcher for Corona Santiago, not only homered, she shut out Norco in a 2-0 victory. May scattered seven hits and struck out 10. It was the first of three Mountain View League games between the rivals.

Santiago (4-0) is ranked No. 2 in The Times’ top 25, and Norco (5-1) is No. 5.

According to the Press-Enterprise account of the game, May has three homers in four games this season for Santiago, and she outdueled Norco pitcher Teagan Gerhart, who struck out 12 in six innings, nine in the first three. Like May, Gerhart also gave up seven hits, but two were homers, including one to Jackie Sweet.

The teams also play April 1 and 24.

The other league mega-games are No. 3 Valencia vs. No. 9 Hart in the Foothill League on April 15, and No. 1 La Palma Kennedy vs. No. 6 Garden Grove Pacifica on April 17 in the Empire League.

In the meantime, if they both win on Thursday, Kennedy will play Santiago Fat 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Faster to First tournament at Huntington Beach Sports Complex. In the preseason Fab 50 ranking by StudentSports.com, they were ranked 1-2 in the nation. That is definitely a mega-game.
