Santa Margarita’s Thompson breaks three-point shooting record

In the first half of the fourth quarter, Klay Thompson of Santa Margarita made his sixth and seventh three-pointers of the game against Sacramento in the boys’ Division III final at Arco Arena in Sacramento, breaking the state record owned by Tracy Murray of Glendora, Paul Stapleton of Anaheim Servite and Joe Kelly of Santa Rosa Montgomery.

In between, he scored on a driving layup, giving him 37 points with just over four minutes remaining in the game and Santa Margarita leading, 62-45. The 37 points ties a Division III state mark.
