Let’s throw out the welcome mat for North Torrance.

The No. 23-ranked Saxons (12-5, 2-0) have strolled into The Times’ top 25 for the first time this season after winning nine of 10 and jumping to the top of the Pioneer League. These girls can win with their bats but they often dominate with their pitching staff -- anchored by starter Hayley Rodriguez -- which has shut out seven opponents.

A couple months back, all was different for North Torrance, which skidded to a 1-3 start. But look who beat the Saxons -- three strong teams, Mater Dei, Beckman and Mira Costa -- and they are 11-2 since.

On Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., the Saxons will play host to league foe South Torrance (5-11, 1-1).
