The Los Angeles Sparks seem to be getting more attention than ever these days, yet their season opener is still 3 1/2 weeks away. Call it the Candace Parker phenomenon.

Their latest promotional gig is the inaugural Southern California High School All-Star Basketball Classic, scheduled for Saturday at Lynwood High School. The event includes six games, three for the boys and three for the girls, scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Teams from Long Beach, Los Angeles, Orange County, the South Bay, Inland Empire and a hodgepodge squad representing San Fernando Valley/San Gabriel Valley/Ventura County are scheduled to compete.

And, yes, Candace will be there for an open practice session.
