Southern Section badminton pairings

The Southern Section’s badminton individual championships are this weekend.

Matches start at 1 p.m. at the Orange County Badminton Club. The pairings are available on the cifss.org website by clicking here.

Howard Shu, a junior at Anaheim Canyon, is the favorite to win boys’ singles. Shu, 17, is the two-time defending champion and also the No. 1-ranked singles player in the country in the under-19 category. His goal is to win four titles in four seasons.

Thuy Hoang, a junior at Garden Grove, is the favorite to win girls singles. Hoang lost in the finals the last two seasons to La Quinta’s Jamie Subandhi. Subandhi graduated last year with three consecutive titles and four finals appearances.
