Valencia’s bats finally cracked to life in the sixth inning of its Southern Section Division I second-round showdown with visiting Lakewood.

Robbie Mousselli broke a scoreless tie with a controversial two-run double down the left field line and Tommy Ferndino and Kyle Eaton singled in a couple more runs to give the Vikings a 4-0 lead heading into the seventh inning.

Most of the Lakewood fans were upset with Mousselli’s hit being ruled fair and, I’ll admit, I didn’t get the greatest look at it since I wasn’t standing behind home plate (although it looked fair to me). A couple pro scouts behind home plate told me they thought it was fair -- but by the smallest of margins.

Lakewood Coach Spud O’Neil didn’t argue too much with home plate umpire, but you can tell he didn’t agree with the call.
