Thanks to a nice double play orchestrated by Long Beach Wilson’s Aaron Hicks and shortstop Cody Harris, the score remains tied, 1-1, heading into the sixth inning of the Southern Section-Toyota Division I championship Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Simi Valley’s Kyle Raskin was plunked with a Hicks’ fastball to lead off the inning and the Rudy-like ballplayer (he’s one of the toughest 5-foot-6 players around) stayed in the game after a quick consultation with his coaches. He made it to second after Hicks walked Nick Russo, but that’s as far as the Pioneers got after Brent Keys hit into a double play.

I’ve been very impressed with the pitching on both sides, especially Simi Valley’s Drew Sandler, who’s held Wilson to three hits. I thought he would run into a little more difficulty against the Bruins’ bats, but he’s looking good.

Hicks has allowed only two hits and has struck out three.
