Brett Hale scored the go-ahead run on a bad pick-off throw and Nick Russo hit a two-run double to the gap in left-center field off Long Beach Wilson reliever Ray Hanson to give Simi Valley a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning of its Southern Section-Toyota Division I championship game Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Hale reached base after Aaron Hicks hit him with a pitch. He moved to second after Drew Sandler was walked, signaling Hicks’ exit. Hanson walked Chance Cross to load the bases.

Hale scored when Wilson catcher Tanner Perkins’ pick-off throw to third went well over Zack Wilson’s head.

It’s do-or-die time for the defending champion Bruins.
