Sunny Hills sophomore Jeff Kang, on the right in the picture, lived up his ranking as one of the best in the nation by winning the CIF state championship tournament Tuesday at the Santa Maria Country Club.

Kang, 16, ranked 105 in the nation by the American Junior Golf Assn., finished with a two-under-par 70 to win the individual title. His score helped Sunny Hills edge runner-up Santa Barbara, 379 to 383, to win the team title.

Kang had somewhat underperform in the Southern Section-Toyota team finals and the CIF/SCGA Southern California Regional by finishing with over-par scores of 75 in each tournament.

But not today. Today, he turned in the lowest score.
