Must admit something before going any further, I was a bit puzzled when I didn’t see Renardo Sidney‘s name in the blog posted by my boy Sondheimer over the weekend about Fairfax winning the Watts Summer Games. Sidney, after all, is one of the top players in the Southland, one of the best in the nation, for that matter. And he gets no mention? No shout out? No love?

Then I remembered the 6-foot-10 junior foward planned on being in New York, where he suited up for his travel ball squad, L.A. Dream Team, a group that competed in the Rumble in the Bronx Tournament. According to this report, Sidney was impressive throughout the weekend showcase, although that news can’t possibly be well received by the Lions faithful.

Fairfax fans, however, must understand this: Sidney is one of the most sought after underclassmen in the nation and missing a tournament here at home in favor of a tournament on the road typically offers players like him an opportunity to enhance his value in the eyes of prospective Division I programs. And trust me, this guy has a laundry list of interested schools.

Arizona St., Ohio St., Texas and USC have offered scholarships. UConn, Kansas, Memphis and UCLA are in the mix as well. Needless to say, Sidney has plenty of options, among them being playing for his high school team during the summer or competing with his travel ball bunch during the dog days of June, July, etc. Hope this clears up any confusion.
