Jordan Hamilton of Compton Dominguez is one of several Southland players competing in this week’s LeBron James U.S. Skills Academy in Akron, Ohio, a Nike-sponsored event showcasing some of the nation’s top talent that’s highlighted by the presence of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God Christian Academy’s John Wall and Mobile (Ala.) LeFlore’s DeMarcus Cousins.

Solomon Hill from Fairfax and Dwayne Polee of Westchester are a couple of the other Southern California kids attempting to leave a lasting impression, although I can’t imagine things have been easy for the tandem given the fact they’ve had to face fellow forwards John Henson of Round Rock (Texas) and Summerville (S.C.) Pinewood Prep’s Milton Jennings.

Common sense leads me to believe that point guards Darius Morris of Windward and Gary Franklin of Mater Dei have been tested against Wall, widely considered the best floor general in the country. And Philadelphia Roman Catholic’s Maalik Wayns is no slouch either -- he must be giving Morris and Franklin fits.

Over the next couple of days, I’m sure there will be plenty of information circulating on the Internet about how everyone performs. Once the news becomes available, as soon as I run across some updates, Varsity Times Insider readers can be assured to find plenty follow-up notes right here, on this website. Stay tuned.
