Jack Marder, Newbury Park’s standout infielder who has committed to Oregon, said the decision not to rehire baseball Coach Scott Drootin is not going over very well among players.

‘We’re all pretty upset and shocked,’ Marder said. ‘We feel he got treated terribly. In my mind, the school made a bad decision.’

Drootin, who completed his fifth year as coach, has declined comment. Marder said the decision could be related to how Drootin treated a player on the team. The school plans to launch a search for a new coach.
