Football: Alemany-Notre Dame could be close -- no, really

I realize there aren’t too many folks outside of Mission Hills who are giving Alemany much of a chance against No. 6 Notre Dame on Friday, but let’s not underestimate the Warriors’ chances in this cross-Valley duel of the unbeatens.

Victories over Saugus and Harvard-Westlake prove Alemany has improved over last year and I wouldn’t be too surprised if we saw a game kind of like the one the Warriors put up against Crespi last year.

Sure, I remember Crespi pulled off a 28-21 victory in that game, but the Warriors led most of the way. A couple of trick plays, some turnovers and a nice helping of possession time kept Alemany in the game until the very end.

And believe me -- the Herrington boys will pull out all the stops against a Notre Dame squad that figures to present their toughest challenge of the season (playoffs included). You know everyone over on Rinaldi Street is itching to bring down the Ryan Kasdorf air show, but can they?

Though the idea of an upset or even a close game sounds compelling, I’m pretty sure the Knights are going to be the ones walking out of Father Milbauer Stadium with an undefeated record. Besides, I can’t pick Notre Dame to lose again -- my allegiance to Servite last week cost me a Coke.

But what do you think? Will Alemany pull off an upset or keep it close? Or will Notre Dame just blow right past the Warriors?

If you can’t make up your mind, check out this slide show of photos from Alemany’s 41-21 victory over Fairfax shot by Alemany team photographer Brian MacGregor:
