Well, this one was a no-brainer -- San Luis Obispo Mission Prep’s Jordan Hasay was named the Gatorade national girls’ cross-country runner of the year Wednesday after capturing her fourth CIF division title last fall. She will be honored in a ceremony at her school this afternoon.

This announcement shouldn’t surprise anyone. Even I predicted Hasay would take home national honors although my cross-country expertise is about as good as a 10-minute mile. Hasay was by far the best female high school cross-country runner in the nation this year.

With the award, Hasay becomes a finalist for the Gatorade high school athlete of the year.
