Steven Adams, a 6-foot-9 junior forward for Pasadena, underwent surgery Tuesday night to remove a non-cancerous mass behind his right eye that put pressure on his brain, according to a story in the Pasadena Star-News.

The procedure took seven hours and became necessary when doctors found the growth after Adams complained of double vision and later headaches. Adams will miss the remainder of the season but should be able to return for the summer basketball circuit. He is expected to miss school for six weeks.

Since it’s uncertain whether Adams’ school insurance policy will cover the surgery, his teammates are helping to raise funds for the family to defray medical costs. Plans have already been made to sell T-shirts.

Anyone wishing to donate to the fund can contact Pasadena athletic secretary Shari Baugh at (626) 798-8991, extension 354.
