Neither team looked particularly sharp in the early going of the Division I-AA championship this evening at the Honda Center, with King clinging to a 13-12 lead over Mater Dei after the first quarter.

Mater Dei forward David Wear had a pair of dunks and finished the quarter with six points. King forward Tony Snell had five points, including a three-point basket.

The Wolves are having star forward Kawhi Leonard guard Mater Dei’s Connor Hughes instead of one of the Wear twins, presumably to keep him out of foul trouble. Leonard opened the game with a three-pointer but hasn’t done much since. He took an off-balance three-pointer that missed badly toward the end of the quarter.
