In a triumph for youth football players, fans and coaches, Compton’s Sibrie Park has been approved to play host to the only NFL flag football league in Los Angeles County starting in September.

The Youth Development League will feature eight teams competing at the park at the corner of Compton Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard. The NFL is providing jerseys, flags and footballs and participants ages 6-13 will have to pay a registration fee of only $25 each, said league founder DeValle James.

Sibrie Park’s gopher-infested field will undergo an extensive makeover, James said, with two 70-yard fields being used for games. Anyone interested in participating can contact James at (310) 722-2529.
