St. Anthony has hired former Long Beach Poly boys’ assistant coach and Bishop Amat girls’ head coach Chris Morrison to coach its boys’ basketball team.

Morrison graduated from St. Anthony in 1991 after playing two years on the basketball team, where he earned first team all-league and all-CIF honors. He played for Western Washington and then played professionally in Europe before returning to coach at Western Washington and at Poly and Bishop Amat. His Lancers went 22-6 last season.

‘Chris brings a new energy combined with his love of St. Anthony High School and its proud tradition,’ St. Anthony Athletic Director Brian Walsh said in a statement. ‘As an alumni of St. Anthony, Chris understands what it means to be a Saint. His experience with student-athletes on and off the court will be an invaluable asset to the school.’
