Girls’ lacrosse: Cate advances to championship

Cate has advanced to the unofficial Southern Section girls’ lacrosse championship game at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Mira Costa against either Los Alamitos or Foothill after defeating La Canada and Redondo last weekend.

Tori Thompson had nine goals and five assists combined for Cate in the two victories.

Top-seeded Los Alamitos (17-0) will play third-seeded Foothill (15-6-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Irvine High in the Orange County championship for the right to advance to play Cate.

In the boys’ Orange County championship game, top-seeded Corona del Mar (19-1) will play second-seeded Foothill (17-5), the two-time defending champion, at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Irvine High. The winner will play the winner of the Los Angeles County boys’ title game between Loyola (15-0) and Mira Costa (13-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mira Costa.

The unofficial boys’ Southern Section championship will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Mira Costa.
