Sophomore left-hander Henry Owens (9-1) struck out seven, walked one and allowed five hits as Huntington Beach Edison defeated Valencia West Ranch, 13-1, in a Southern Section Division I second-round playoff game Tuesday.

The Chargers (21-5) opened a 7-0 lead after three innings. Leading the hitting attack were shortstop Kyle Jones, who had three hits and three RBIs; outfielder Chris Czerniachowski, who had a triple, a three-run home run and five RBIs, and outfielder Eric Snyder, who led off the game with a home run.

The only threat for West Ranch (21-8) came in the fifth inning. Mitchell Thompson led off the inning with a home run, and the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out. But Owens struck out Cal Vogelsang and got a double play to end the inning. He retired the final eight batters.
