After an incredibly close 100 meters, there was no doubt who won the 200: Santee’s Tevin Carter.

The junior pulled away from Crenshaw sophomore DeAnthony Thomas to win easily, recording a personal-record time of 21.38. Thomas finished second in 21.61 and Dorsey’s Robert Herron was third in 21.93.

It was an amazing display for Carter, who did not qualify for the City finals in the 100 or 200 last year. Now he will compete in both events at the state meet.

Carter credited Coach Joe Kearney for pushing him through when he wanted to quit.

‘He pushed me all week when I treid to give up. He’s a big reason this happened.’
