Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei wins its tournament title

With guards Tyler Lamb and Gary Franklin Jr. leading the way, Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Long Beach Poly, 101-85, in the championship game of its summer tournament this past weekend.

Lamb averaged 30 points a game and Franklin wasn’t far behind at 27 points, according to Coach Gary McKnight. Lamb has committed to UCLA and Franklin is committed to USC, though Franklin may be having second thoughts because of the ongoing NCAA investigation involving the Trojans’ basketball program.
