It was 10-time City Section champion Westchester taking on 16-time City champion Crenshaw on Saturday in the championship game of the L.A. Watts Summer Games. Westchester, of course, has been the hot team of late, winning the City and state Division I titles last season.

But the Comets were challenged from start to finish. Their experience came through in the end, with Westchester pulling out a 50-46 victory.

Guard Denzel Douglas was named the tournament MVP. He had 13 points. Dwayne Polee Jr. was the Comets’ top scorer with 15 points. Guard Kareem Jamar connected on a crucial three-pointer with just under two minutes left to give Westchester a five-point lead. Guard Jordin Mayes had two three-pointers in the second half.

All-City guard Reynaul Baker had 19 points for Crenshaw, which left little doubt that it’s capable of challenging the Comets and Woodland Hills Taft for next season’s City title. Coach Ed Waters was happy that his team played competitively.

Here’s some video highlights, including an appearance by Lakers Hall of Famer Jerry West.
