Boys’ basketball: Orange Lutheran takes down Taft in overtime

Summer basketball games don’t get much better than the Orange Lutheran-Woodland Hills Taft game Tuesday night in the Fairfax tournament.

Orange Lutheran’s James Douglas made a layup at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, and Dylan Rice made a hook shot at the buzzer in overtime to give the Lancers an 84-82 victory over Taft.

Rice, a senior, finished with 24 points. Douglas, a junior, had 21 points, and sophomore Gabe York made four three-pointers and had 15 points.

For Taft, Pierson Williams scored 22 points. The Toreadors trailed by 10 points in the first half, rallied to take the lead and were down by six points at halftime. In the second half, Taft trailed by 12 points, rallied to take the lead but couldn’t hold on.

Orange Lutheran advances to play in Friday’s quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Long Beach Poly and St. Francis.
