It was a split decision today for the Southern California contingent competing for the Milwaukee Brewers Gray and Blue teams in the Area Code Games at Blaif Field in Long Beach.

The Milwaukee Brewers Blue got some strong pitching from Barstow’s Aaron Sanchez, Dana Hills’ Peter Tago and Glendora’s Adam Plutko to take a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees. Pomona Garey’s Vincent Velasquez drove in one of the Brewers’ two second-inning runs.

Things didn’t go quite as well for the Milwaukee Brewers Gray, who dropped a 11-4 decision to the Oakland Athletics after squandering leads of 3-1 and 4-3. Milwaukee took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and appeared poised to build on its advantage before Mater Dei’s Cory Hahn grounded into a double play and Oakland shortstop Joel McKeithan made a dazzling catch to end the inning.

Hahn’s single later drove in Crespi’s Ryon Healy to give Milwaukee a 4-3 lead before Oakland pushed across the game’s final eight runs.

The Brewers Blue will play the Cincinnati Reds at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Brewers Gray playing the Washington Nationals at 11:30 a.m. and the Chicago White Sox at 2:30 p.m.
