Oaks Christian is getting a lot of love these days.

Not only are the Lions considered the top team in Southern California by some national polls, they are projected to qualify for the open division state bowl championship game according to calpreps.com. That game, according to calpreps, would pit Oaks Christian against Concord De La Salle in a battle of the old guard versus the new.

In the Division I game, calpreps has Lakewood playing Sacramento Grant, the defending champion in the division. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame gets the nod in Division II against an opponent to be determined since the folks who run the website have determined there’s no clear favorite from Northern California.

Ventura St. Bonaventure is the projected Southern California entrant from Division III against an opponent to be named, and San Diego Parker is projected to play Modesto Christian in the small-schools game.

These projections are sure to change as the season progresses and could shift radically if Crenshaw defeats Lakewood in a season opener Sept. 4. I’d be surprised if Long Beach Poly doesn’t find its way into the mix at some point.
