Sophomore Chaiyse Hales took the final snaps at quarterback for Long Beach Poly during a 30-7 loss to Servite, but sophomore Dylan Lagarde will probably be back under center next week when the Jackrabbits start their next game against St. Bonaventure.

Poly Coach Raul Lara said he had planned to play both quarterbacks Thursday night but was unable to get Hales into the game until garbage time because of the way things unexpectedly unfolded.

‘I thought Dylan did OK,’ Lara said. ‘He just missed a little bit, whether he threw it too long or the receiver was not really running, whatever the case may be. There were also a couple of drops. I thought for the most part for his first varsity start, he did a good job.’

Lara said a third quarterback, senior Chris Leachman, is pushing the sophomores in practice and could contend for playing time.

‘The quarterback position will always be competitive,’ Lara said. ‘We always want them to battle and whoever battles well in practice will end up being the starter.’
