Football: Mission Viejo leads Tesoro, 21-0, after first quarter

Mission Viejo’s Exavier Edwards continues to impress.

Edwards scored on an 11-yard run in the closing seconds of the first quarter to give the Diablos a 21-0 lead. So far, Edwards has rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns in seven carries.

Mission Viejo scored its second touchdown on a 23-yard pass from quarterback Dallin McEwen to Joey Branker in the back of the end zone. McEwen redeemed himself after overthrowing Branker, who was wide open, two plays earlier.

The Diablos have been using the Wildcat offense effectively at times in the game. They have more than 100 yards on the ground.

Tesoro went three and out on its second possession.
