Huntington Beach Edison junior pitcher Henry Owens is still two years away from being eligible for baseball’s amateur draft, but he’s sure making scouts take notice.

He was named most valuable pitcher at the World Wood Bat Assn. World Championship in Jupiter, Fla., on Monday after helping the Atlanta Braves scout team defeat the Orange County Boxers, 7-1, in the championship game.

Owens, a 6-foot-5 left-hander, threw nine shutout innings during the week, striking out 12 while allowing four hits. He threw the last two innings of Monday’s game.
