It’s fair to say there are a number of plays both Los Alamitos and Long Beach Poly would like to have back in the waning minutes of the first half.

On fourth-and-14 on its 21-yard line, the punt from Los Alamitos kicker Dan Boyer was blocked by Long Beach Poly defensive back Ryan Goforth. The ball rolled deep into the Griffins’ backfield, but Goforth had trouble picking up the ball. Instead of the Jackrabbits picking it up for a touchdown, they got a safety after the football rolled into the end zone. Long Beach Poly led 9-7 with 1:23 remaining.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jackrabbits Michael Teo fumbled the ball, but recovered it at Los Alamitos’ 43-yard line. One play later, Long Beach Poly quarterback Chris Leachman was intercepted by Los Alamitos defensive back Josh Barut.
