The happy news:

Troy senior guard Alex Sanchez committed to Long Beach State on Saturday. Sanchez averages 14 points a game for Troy (14-1), ranked No. 6 by The Times.

‘She’s extremely excited,’ said Troy Coach Roger Anderson.

The sad news:

Two Warriors were injured during a game on Dec. 31 against Louisville (Ky.) Mercy.

Senior point guard Stephanie Yano sustained an ankle injury and has been out the past two weeks. Anderson allowed her to play for two minutes against Sonora and five minutes against Fullerton.

‘She’s not at 100%,’ Anderson said.

Freshman forward Alecia Dimas is out with a knee injury, and should receive exam results on Tuesday.

The game plan:

In Troy’s 15 games this season, the Warriors have held all but four teams to under 40 points.

‘Defense is our strategy,’ Anderson said, adding, ‘Defense wins championships.’
