Harvard-Westlake has come out hot and focused, leading Los Angeles Loyola, 29-14, after the first quarter of their Mission League game at Loyola.

Turnovers and missed shots left Loyola down, 21-6, with 2:24 left in the first quarter. At the same time, Harvard-Westlake kept being aggressive on offense, going inside and outside.

Erik Swoope (nine points, two dunks) and Damiene Cain (eight points) are using their strength and size to overpower the Cubs, who are playing man-to-man defense.

Loyola’s biggest deficit in the first quarter was 17 points.

It’s a little surprising Loyola has come out sluggish. In an earlier meeting, the Cubs led Harvard-Westlake most of the game before losing, 74-70, their only loss of the season.
