Boys’ basketball: Wildcats up 15-11 after one quarter

Top-seeded Windward has a 15-11 lead heading into the second quarter of the Division 5AA final at Colony High in Ontario.

The teams have been racing up and down the court at a torrid pace since the tip-off, but the Wildcats have been sharper in their halfcourt offense.

A key early is the effectiveness of Windward point guard Kwame Firempong, who has made all four of his shots (one of them from long range) and leads all scorers with 9 points. Wesley Saunders has three points and Chauncey Hill the other 2 for the Wildcats.

Junior guard Bruce English and junior center Xavier Jones have 4 points apiece and C.J. Cooper has 3 for La Verne Lutheran.
