Boys’ basketball: Gardena Serra holds halftime lead

It’s two evenly matched teams in the Division 3A final at the Honda Center, and Gardena Serra leads Compton Centennial, 30-28, at halftime.

Serra opened a 20-12 lead at the outset of the second quarter, but Centennial went on a 14-2 run to take a 26-22 advantage. Then Serra got its fast break going and emerged with a two-point halftime lead.

Both teams are playing well on defense, and it figures to come down to which individual player gets hot at the right time in the second half.

Harrison Hawkins has 11 points for Centennial, which has made eight of 10 free throws.
