Baseball: Wiest strikes out 11 in Trinity League opener

Grahamm Wiest struck out 11 and walked none in six innings, and Bret Dahlson went three for five with two RBIs to lead San Juan Capistrano JSerra (7-1) past Santa Margarita, 8-2, in a Trinity League opener Saturday.

Anaheim Servite won its Trinity League opener, 6-3, over St. John Bosco in eight innings.

Long Beach Wilson defeated La Mirada, 12-1. Chris Hubbard hit a two-run home run.

Steve Karkenny ended Chatsworth’s two-game losing streak by throwing a five-hitter in the Chancellors’ 8-1 win over Sylmar. He also had a three-run triple.

Denny Vigo went four for four and hit two home runs, but Simi Valley was beaten by Camarillo, 12-6.

Junior Zach Friedman improved to 3-0, striking out nine in Taft’s 7-1 victory over Ventura St. Bonaventure. Jordan Berger had three hits. Taft is 6-2 and has won four consecutive games.

Alemany (6-3) defeated Bishop Montgomery, 12-1, and 5-4. Sophomore Cory Messmore threw a complete game in the first game. Scott Rhodes hit a three-run home run. Mark Strazzeri had six hits in two games.

Encino Crespi and Thousand Oaks split a doubleheader, Crespi (7-2) winning the first game, 4-3, and losing the second, 8-5.

Reseda Cleveland defeated Calabasas,8-4. Jaylen Bland and George Vosahlo had two hits each.

A two-out, game-winning double by Eric Munoz in the seventh inning enabled Birmingham to defeat Narbonne, 6-5. Marti Sementelli earned her first victory in relief. She threw three innings, giving up two hits and one run.

Ventura defeated West Torrance, 5-4. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame swept a doubleheader from Canyon Country Canyon, 6-5, in 10 innings and 9-4. Morgan Walberg had the winning hit in the first game.

Arleta defeated Granada Hills Kennedy, 5-4. Javy Lopez threw a complete-game three-hitter with nine strikeouts. Chris Mallon and Branden Soto hit home runs for Kennedy.
