Compton scored seven of the final nine points of the first half to take a 28-22 halftime lead over San Diego Lincoln in the Southern California regional Division II championship at the Galen Center.

After the Hornets made it 21-20 on a pair of free throws, the Tarbabes reeled off seven consecutive points on three free throws by Cliff Sims Jr. and layups by Allan Guei and Anthony January.

Lincoln scored the final basket of the half on two free throws by Victor Dean. Compton is bidding to make its first trip to a state title game.

The shooting has been abysmal for both teams. Lincoln is making only 17.2% of its shots, including one of eight three-point attempts, compared to 25.8% shooting for Compton. The teams have missed so many shots that they’ve already combined for 49 rebounds in only 16 minutes of action.
