The third time was charmless for Compton Centennial.

The Apaches got a third shot at Gardena Serra after losing twice earlier this season and couldn’t come through during a 74-50 loss in the Southern California Division III regional championship at the Galen Center.

Serra outshot and out-toughed Centennial in the paint in a matchup of super-athletic teams, pulling down 25 more rebounds. The Cavaliers will now try to become the first team to win state championships in football and basketball in the same school year. Serra won its only state title in basketball in 1993.
