Mater Dei finally broke the curse.

After losing to Brea Olinda in last year’s Division II regional final, and again at the Tony Matson Memorial Classic in January, Mater Dei took down its arch rivals on Saturday at USC in a 51-46 win.

Mater Dei trailed by seven points midway through the third and entered the fourth with a 41-38 deficit. Then the Monarchs took control, and went on a 7-2 run at the top of the quarter and held on for the win.
