The Senate Education Committee in Sacramento voted 5-1 to pass on a bill to the full Senate that would place a two-year moratorium on the use of metal bats in high school baseball.

The committee was responding to safety concerns raised earlier this season when a Marin Catholic pitcher, Gunnar Sandberg, was struck in the head by a line drive off a metal bat.
