Boys’ golf: Ramirez wins City title by one stroke

Chris Ramirez of Cleveland won the individual title at the City Section Golf Championships on Wednesday afternoon in Griffith Park. The Cavaliers’ senior shot a 1-over par 73 on the Wilson Course for a two-day total of 142, edging sophomore Troix Tonkham of Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies by one shot.

Ramirez and Tonkham entered the final round tied for the lead after each shot a 69 Monday on the shorter Harding Course, two strokes ahead of El Camino Real’s Daniel Slovis, the defending champion.

Brady Ma of Granada Hills shot an even-par 72 Wednesday to finish third at 144. Slovis shot a final-round 75 to finish fourth at 146. The top four golfers all played in the same group Wednesday and each carded a 35 on the back nine.

Also qualifying as individuals for next Thursday’s Southern California Regional Championships were North Hollywood’s Khorri Ellis (148), Chatsworth’s James Holley (148), Robin Jang of Van Nuys (150), Phillip Gonzales of Verdugo Hills (153), Angelo Galletti of Sherman Oaks CES (154), Christian Veluz of Hamilton (154), Brandon Dorsey of North Hollywood (155), Aaron Warren-Fernandez of Cleveland (155) and Matthew Paek of Van Nuys (158).

El Camino Real won the team title with a two-day total of 766 and will be joined at the Regionals by runner-up Venice (776). Granada Hills finished third with a score of 802, followed by Van Nuys (811), Cleveland (818) and North Hollywood (834).
