Huntington Park hasn’t been able to break up the Eastern League trio of Garfield, Roosevelt and L.A. Jordan, but the team returns 16 starters, including seven who started as sophomores last season, so Coach LeRoy Wilson is excited and confident the Spartans will be much improved after a 4-6 record in 2009.

Leading the way are experienced offensive and defensive lines, led by seniors Brian Alvarado (5-10, 225 pounds), Israel Benitez (5-11, 235), Vincent Gallegos (6-1, 280) and Uziel Jaimes (5-11, 245).

Huntington Park also has a completed new field, plus several players return who had to sit out last season for breaking team rules, and they’re going to have to work their butts off just to regain starting spots.

It all makes for what could be quite a competitive Eastern League football race.
