With its top big man, Ryan Anderson, away at a camp, Long Beach Poly still showed why it’s going to be the No. 1 boys’ basketball team in the state next season with an 18-point victory over Encino Crespi in the Fairfax tournament.

Alex Carmon scored 22 points for the Jackrabbits, who led by only six points at halftime before controlling the game in the second half. The Jackrabbits are unselfish, play physical defense and have many weapons.

Poly’s win sets up what figures to be an entertaining match on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Crenshaw at Fairfax. The other quarterfinal Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. will match St. Bernard and Dorsey. St. Bernard defeated Orange Lutheran, 67-62. A nice victory for new Coach Reggie Morris Jr. Dorsey defeated Los Angeles Loyola, 83-82.
