With temperatures reaching the triple digits last week in the San Fernando Valley, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake football players looked forward to their water breaks because they have a secret weapon: A machine that offers free, cold Gatorade when it’s filled up with syrup.

The machine is located right across from the coaches’ office, and there isn’t a high school team in sunny Southern California that wouldn’t want one.

But who’s in charge of making sure the machine is filled with Gatorade?

That would be the sports medicine people.

‘When they’re not viewing surgeries or conducting original research, they’re replacing the syrup in the machine,’ said Audrius Barzdukas, head of athletics.

And the athletes love their Gatorade machine.
