It’s amazing how early college baseball recruiters seek commitments from players. Offering scholarships to sophomores has become routine.

One of the most sought-after players is Santa Ana Mater Dei junior-to-be Ty Moore, a pitcher-outfielder who helped the Monarchs win the Southern Section Division 1 championship. He’ll be spending some time in the fall visiting schools. UCLA is among the schools pursuing Moore.

Van Nuys Montclair Prep junior-to-be pitcher Max Fried has seen his reputation soar after productive performances in the Area Code Games. He’s an A student, so he’ll have his choice of any school he wants. Ditto for North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake pitcher Lucas Giolito, another junior who’s a top student.

La Puente Bishop Amat junior-to-be shortstop Rio Ruiz doesn’t need to take any visits. He’s a long-time USC commit.

Chatsworth pitcher-outfielder Aaron Brown, who will be a senior, appears to be deciding between Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine. He also has made himself into a top professional prospect.

Monday is the deadline for drafted players from the class of 2010 to decide whether they’re going to sign or head to college. Once college coaches know the decision, more scholarship offers could be coming.
