Los Angeles Crenshaw has looked flat since emerging from the locker room at halftime, giving up a touchdown on a fumble and a field goal as Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett leads, 17-12, heading into the fourth quarter.

North Gwinnett’s Brandon McGowan scored on a 42-yard fumble return on a ball dropped by Crenshaw’s Ronnell Sumpter with 8:35 left in the third quarter to give the Bulldogs their second lead of the game. On their next possession, North Gwinnett put together a long drive that ended in a 27-yard field goal by Jeff Hatley.

Crenshaw had little offensive success in the third quarter, failing to pick up a first down. Star running back De’Anthony Thomas, who racked up 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the first quarter, was held to less than 20 yards in the third for the Cougars, ranked No. 10 in the Southland by The Times.

Thomas hasn’t looked the same since suffering a leg injury in the first half. He has seen few carries in the second half.

The game is being televised live by ESPNU.
